I have had the great pleasure in having Lauren from Red Door Photography take a few photos for my Newborn Headbands over the last few months.

I made Lauren 9 Newborn headbands and wanted to share the first photos of some of them. I normally battle on with photos myself but when it comes to newborn headbands I just can't stand them if they aren't on a sleeping bubba.

Aren't they just adorable?!

I have had the pleasure of meeting Lauren and I can let you all know that not only do you get lovely photographs to cherish you will also get to spend the session with such a warm and lovely photographer. Who will put you at ease the minute you meet her.

Lego Mania

Over my little break we decided to take the kids to the Sydney Aquarium and Wildlife World, we didn't even think about the school holiday crowds and even if we did we could never have imagined what it would have been like when we got there. It was crazy - people where lined up along the whole wharf just to get tickets. It was all worth it though because there was a Lego display throughout both the buildings was truly mind blowing....

This was huge, as you can see from the photo it was way over my head.

At the bottom of the horse three was a Lego pit for all the kids to let their imagination run wild.

This was so big and amazing that I wasn't able to get it all. This almost reached the roof and was one of my favourites. At the bottom of him where waves, and an octopus.

This even made my partner "oooohhhh" with delight - and it takes a bit to get him excited!! It was truly an artwork. The picture at the back is flat and also made from Lego with the Lego sculpture in front.

I would recommend a trip to see it or keeping an eye out for it near you, the only think it missed was statistics like how long it took them and how many pieces where in each display. They did have videos that showed them doing it which was also great to see.

After all that Lego I dragged them all to the Fudge Shop in Sydney that I dream about all he time. Also worth the trip to find out that you can order online and get it sent in the mail. Coconut Ice Fudge will be the death of me!! Fudge lovers you will not be disappointed ....

I am back and refreshed from a little New Year Break and knee deep in orders - which is a nice way to start the year! We have lots of new items coming as soon as I have been cleaning out the studio and have realised just how unorganised I am....I have just almost filled a 10 litre tub with products that I have made that have never made it to the website. Talk about crazy!

But before I begin another day of cleaning and order filling I thought I would share some of my Christmas photos.

We spent most of Christmas day away from the house this year (which I vow not to do again while the kids are little so they can enjoy their presents and soak it all up without having to worry about being somewhere or keeping people waiting) I didn't get many photos of the actual day but managed to get a few photos before a Boxing Day Breakfast that I had at my house.

I have been lucky enough to have the lovely Kris from Kris McCann photography capturing some of my products over the last few months and I have to say WOW!

Kris contacted me and expressed an interest shooting Flirty Bird and I am really glad that I said YES!

This was supposed to be a simple photo shoot with her beautiful daughters and it turned into so much more. Kris has gone above and beyond what I ever expected and I am very happy to share some of the photos here.

Scarlett hates modelling for Flirty Bird.

She usually does it because she is a total chocoholic and knows that there will be a treat at the end.

However the choc ain't cutting it lately.

She gave me the hand on the weekend when trying to take a photo - not even a product shot!

She put it up and hid her eyes behind it!

The question is will I ever get her to sit for another photo after this.....

Newborn Range Coming Soon!

I should really have my needle and thread out and finish off the newborn range so I can get it onto the site but I couldn't wait to show you these pictures anymore so I am writing this instead!

Renee at NFE DESIGN has been lovely enough to shoot some of the newborn headbands that will be available very soon in the shop or through our lovely stockists!

I am in love with these photos - sleeping babies have to be one of the most beautiful things on this planet and even better when sleeping in one of my headbands!

How cute is Hannah? A Cutie Patootie that is for sure. Makes me think that the months of being big and fat or in my case HUGE would be all worth it again to have a little bundle like that to cuddle again.

I just had to share these....

These are for a 5 year old's birthday pamper party, how beautiful are they??

All the girls will get their nails done, probably chat away about who kissed who in the last game of Catch and Kiss in the playground and when they are filled to the brim with desserts and lollies and cannot be pampered another minute each girl will waive goodbye and take a little bag each, containing treats including these as well as two sets of matching clips.

This little girl has such a beautiful mum, don't you think?

In my opinion we should never stop having parties filled with games and lolly bags, and I wouldn't mind a game of catch and kiss either, these days I would just be just a little more selective who I play with -Colin Firth, Johnny Depp, Edward Norton and Jacob - just for the twilight fans.

Some of you may have seen Pretty Penny a while back when she was a little bubba right here on this blog. Well Pretty Little Penny has been wearing Flirty Bird since she was a little girl and it has been lovely to watch her grow and change with every photo. I love this so much that I wanted to share. I have had the pleasure to get to know Veronica (Penny's mummy) via emails for a while now and have had the pleasure to hear about her creationof the The Paper Sweet (Grand Opening July 2010) Make sure that you swing by her blog ready for the opening because I have a feeling that this will be one of those blogs that will have you captivated with words and pictures for hours on end. I am very excited as I have seen Veronica's cards first hand and they are brilliant.

New Shapes

Very happy to announce that we have new shapes in the shop. We still have our rounds that we have been carrying for the last two years but have added stars, hearts, square and my favourite, bow shapes to the store. There will be a few more shapes to come but I will keep them up my sleeve for the moment!

The shop has had a complete overhaul with lots of new things coming in the next week or so....It is really worth stopping by to see all the new pretty accessories on offer!

Never Give Up

Well I don't normally post too much personal stuff on here anymore, I just don't get the time. I would love to post daily and have interesting things like recipes, cake decorating, kids stuff and much more but it is either create accessories or blog and getting the needle and thread out seems to always win.

But I just had to take the time share this one because it really made my day.....

I had a really tough week last week. So much so that I was ready to walk away from it all. I started making hair accessories for fun and never thought of creating a business from it - it sort of picked me instead of the other way around. It has been a really great experience for me and I have learnt so much about photography, computers, importing, accounting etc etc (must say that I still don't get twitter though!) that I would never have learnt otherwise.

Anyway, with every good side there is always (well most of the time)a bad side and I really felt that bad side last week. While getting my son's brekkie for him I was pondering the thought of stepping away from Flirty Bird and from nowhere this little voice said "Mum, you never give up".

That was my son, who, of course, had no idea what I was thinking he simply was telling me what he learnt at Karate the day before and I simply said " No Matey, you never give up" and with that the decision made to keep going and Outwit, Outlast, Outplay.

A silly story really, but funny how as a parent you teach your children so many things and most the time we forget that they teach us some of the most important things in life along the way.

Another new felt headband has been added to the site today, again in limited numbers. I have really been enjoying felt lately and it would have to be my favourite medium at the moment. I love the versatility and that the only thing that limits it is my own imagination. I have so many new ideas, I just need to find the time to put them all into practise!

There will also be three new fabric bows added sometime tonight. They are so great for thin hair as they are attached via a small french barrette. You will see from the photos that they held well even in Scarlett's thin hair!

Everyday Hero: Humptys Hike-Mt Kosciuszko: In November Leah Rigney will join 100 women and climb Mt Kosciusko to raise money for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

Humpty is a small charity doing BIG things and your help will ensure kids here in Australia and in East Timor have access to life-saving medical equipment.

Flirty Bird is very proud to be supporting Leah with a donation of goodies for a Humpty Dumpty Garden Party, to be held on June 5th.

New Elastics, New products, New Store!!!

We have a new shipment of elastics from a new supplier! We have always been happy with our elastics but after sampling these we just had to order them, they come in four sizes, small thin, small thick, standard thin and standard thick and come in great colours, have great stretch and are all round great!! We have been using the small thick for sometime now and the great feedback from them we decided to use them for all sizes. With the shipment in, I have now added a sizing reference chart to each ponytail holder listing to make is easier to pick which elastic is easier for you.

We also have Lots and Lots of new products popping up in store however this is just the start. We have 4 huge boxes to pick up tomorrow which includes some great new supplies for me to work my magic with! I am very excited to add the new products and hopefully Friday will be able to share some new goodies!

We also have opened up a sister store, Hair Heaven, aimed at teenagers to adults. At them moment they are manufactured accessories at great prices however like the poppies in store now there will be lots handmade items uploaded over the next few months to give you the best of both worlds. We hope you like the new store and any feedback or requests for products are very welcome!

Some of you might remember my pretty customer Penny. Since Penny's mum, Veronica, purchased her first accessories from me a while back now we have chatted quite often via email.

Veronica talked about a passion for creating things with paper and how she would like to start a business that allowed her to pursue that passion.....

I am happy to say that she took the plunge and is in the process of setting up the paper sweet which will launch early 2010.

Very very excited to finally have some accessory stands made for my Indonesia Retailers. It has been a very long process but between some design work here in Australia and some construction work in Singapore through my distributor, they have finally arrived for her to send them off to Jakarta.

I have a lovely group of fans on facebook that get so excited at the words - baby clip - I have never really offered a huge range of these purely due to lack of time. I have a few in the shop right now but they have nearly sold out so I have been working on quite a few to give little bubbies with fine hair lots of options too!

Working on the new range has been so exciting. I now have more time to enjoy creating new

products thanks to my new website which has allowed me to finally feel organised for the first time since starting Flirty Bird.

What a productive day I have had today. I am happy to say that the Christmas range is available right now! To make it easy to find all designs on the one page all you need to do is seach 'christmas' and waaa laaaa they will magically appear before your eyes!

Hip Hip Horray!

On Wednesday my little man turned 3 and it would have had to have been one of the best days. I couldn't have asked for a better day for him. He had been counting down from 7 sleeps and with one sleep to go he couldn't wait any longer, he was so excited.

The morning of his birthday he woke to find about 6 presents and just stood and looked at me like he was going to cry, he simply didn't know what to do until I said that he could open them. He loved them all giving them equal amounts of time and even sharing with his little sis.

He is worm mad so we got him a worm farm so he can feed them scraps and dig to find them (which he was very excited about), we set this up before we went off to a carnival that was in the area for school holidays. Both of them had so much fun dancing to the entertainment, chasing bubbles from fairies, getting their faces painted and riding in the wind up boats. They are the best of friends and it was great to spoil them and give them everything that their hearts desired for a day.

We came back from the carnival to pick up their great uncle from the train station then while I got everything ready for guests they read their new books that he gave them and tried to put a puzzle together. Not long after guests and presents started arriving. By this time he was so excited that he was doing little dances as he saw the presents...

Running from room to room opening and giggling with delight at his new toys with Scarlett close behind (she got a few little presents on the side too shhhh......)

Then the rest of the afternoon was spent eating great sweets, blowing out candles and watching the kids enjoy such a great day.

Life is funny sometimes,

I just emailed a friend and said that I thought that I need to start looking at life like the glass is half full and not half empty and then immediately after I hit send I came across this, I have to take it as a sign and participate and hopefully you all will too.....

I am thankful that I have two happy, healthy, lovely, delightful, adorable children.

I am thankful that I have a partner that works his but off to give his family everything that our hearts desire.

I am thankful that my poppy came home from hospital today.

I am thankful that I have many amazing friends that I couldn't live without - they are always there for me no matter what.

I am thankful for Flirty Bird and all the lovely retailers, customers, comments and challenges that I have come across along the way. I have learnt so much.

I am thankful that this weekend my best friends and I have going to eat, drink and be merry!

I am thankful for my mum and dad for helping me though this year, without them I would have been in a white jacket on the way to the hospital by now!

So now, it is up to you to spread the positive - not the negative, go on - go loud and spread the word!

Pretty Penny Makes Me Happy!

I l♥ve my business.

Since I started Flirty Bird people have asked me

'Are you working?'.

My immediate response, without thinking, is 'No, I am a stay at home mum'......

I have only got my head around the fact that I am not a full time mum and I am working mum - I just don't go out to work each day, I have the pleasure of working while my children are with me - I don't have to miss the funny things that they say and do.

I know one thing, I definitely work longer than those that travel to work each day, but it doesn't worry me one little bit, even on the days like today when I have been up all night filling orders and got 3.5 hours sleep before getting up and starting all over again.

I just love love love it and it is all because of super sweet little people like this that makes it so much fun.....

(She doesn't need help with those gorgeous eyes and red cheeks but I am partial to red and spots so that just made me drool with delight! )

Little Penny is almost 10 months old and has a little Flirty Bird parcel of cute clip sets on its way, thanks to her sweet mum Veronica.

I love when mum's and dad's, grandma's and sisters take the time to show me the faces behind the orders, it really makes my day. I think I am going to start a little board in my studio with all these lovely photo's to inspire me.

I love it when I get emails from customers that are happy with their order, I have had quite a few this week and really wanted to acknowledge all of you for making Flirty Bird what it is. Thank you to all of you who have taken the time out of your day to email me and send me photo's of my accessories - it really makes my day to see all the cute little faces under the headbands, clips and ponytail holders not to mention the faces of people that I have had numerous conversations with about custom orders and how to get little girls to wear their hair accessories (something that I am failing at miserably....Poor Scarlett really needs her mummy to set aside some time to dedicate to hair accessory wearing training!)

I just had to share this photo sent from a lovely customer of her little girls in their new clips. Tanya is a big Blythe Doll Fan and I made up 2 pairs of Blythe Doll Clips for her oh so cute daughters and her Blythe dolls. I love it.

Yesterday I received a lovely parcel in the mail from Shannon who owns Mini Mermaid. She emailed me to let me know that she had a present for me which is just lovely since we have never met.

I am blown away by some of the friendships that I have made since starting Flirty Bird, people are so kind and generous with their time, knowledge and products and Shannon is one of those people that you see always sharing everything she has learnt in business and always lending products for photo shoots.

The Trash Tie Braid

Over the next week or so I will try to show you all a few hair styles using the Trash Ties that I will soon have in my hot little hands.....the first being the braid.

To create a braid with a modern twist wrap a TRASH TIE
around a portion of your hair (choose a bight colour to stand out of a colour close to your own hair colour if you don;t want the trash tie to be seen). Gather more hair and then wrap again. Repeat until braid is complete.

TRASH TIES

The basics of what a trash tie can do...

At the core of every TRASH TIE is a durable, heat tempered wire, which is made to be bent over and over. This wire is what puts the twist in Trash Ties.

Use Trash Ties as a headband or pony-wrap

Wrap a portion of hair tightly, like a ponytail, or pigtail.

Spiral the remainder of the tie down the length hair, leaving about 3-4” unwrapped.

Coil hair into a bun, or mini-rosette.

Stitch the Trash Tie end through the hair next to your head to “hook” the bun in place. Wrap tightly.

TRASH TIES will hold even the most heavy hair securely when wrapped tightly in place.

Many hair styles may be created where TRASH TIES won’t even show. To do so, select TRASH TIES that blend with your hair color.

With a drop of soap and a quick rinse, TRASH TIES are hand-washable.

When it’s time to let your hair down, un-fold your TRASH TIES instead of tugging them straight, to prevent kinks...

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!

I have been lacking inspiration this week. It is cold and I can't seem to get my body into action all I want to do is sit under a blanket in front of heating. I have achieved a fraction of what I set out to do and only said yesterday that I needed something to get me going.....

Today that inspiration arrived...

I woke up to an email in my inbox from Isaac Bailey....Isaac Bailey you say,who is that and how is that exciting? Issac Bailey is Heather Bailey's husband!

Heather Bailey, for those of you who don't have a fabric obsession like me is the savvy lady who designed the fabric that I purchased for the backdrop of my recent photo shoot....

Heather is one talented gal who doesn't stop at designing fabrics, it is well worth sitting down with a warm drink and if nothing else taking in her beautiful photos from her blog. While browsing through her beautiful creations and inspiring blog posts I came across one of her inventions - Trash Ties - The Coolest New Hair Thingie TM.

I knew immediately that Trash Ties would be a great success here in Australia and wanted to be able to offer them to my customers as well as others who I know would love them.

Today, I am happy to say that the email from Issac gave me the OK to distribute them exclusively throughout Australia!

So I am going to be busy busy again and will need to post more about how they work and how brilliant they are shortly, but you can see here just how cool they are in the meantime.

Everyday I get a lovely email from Bondville, a beautiful blog that highlights all things beautiful and funky with the main categories including Australian Artist Spotlight and stylish kids, it is nice each day to just read what steph has written as I don't get to read many books anymore - between having a one and two year old and my third baby, Flirty Bird it is pretty much impossible.

As I was reading today's post I noticed an older post about the movie 27 dresses - which I love - so I took a little look see.
